5.3 Earthquake hit Zagreb region, Croatia

On 22.03.2020 in the early morning hours a strong earthquake of the magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale hit the capitol of Croatia and its neighbouring regions.

The tremors, including the two aftershocks of the magnitude 5.0 and 3.7 on the Richter scale, resulted in wide-scale damages to buildings and other constructions in the area. Local news reported cracking walls, collapsed roofs and streets covered in debris. According to the authorities approximately 70 buildings were damaged.

The Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, announced that accomodation will be provided to those, whose homes were damaged by the quakes, presently in a student’s dormitory with a maximal capacity of 1.800 people.
